Distress Oxide Blending An Ocean Sunset Using Masking

Hello my crafty friends! Today I am sharing a sunset ocean card that I created using Distress Oxide ink blending and masking.

I started by taking the Simple Blend Oval stencil mask and taping it over a piece of Bristol Smooth paper. I used painters tape to mask off the bottom half of the oval and then blended a sky on the top half. For the blending I used Squeezed Lemonade, Wild Honey, Abandoned Coral, Seedless Preserves, Wilted Violet, Tumbled Glass, and Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide inks. I painted on some cloud shapes in the sky using clean water on a brush and then dabbing up the water with a paper towel.

I removed the tape covering the bottom half of the oval and then masked off the top half. I blended an ocean on the bottom using the same colors as the sky excluding the Squeezed Lemonade and adding in Black Soot. I removed all of the tape and masking and then placed the oval stencil piece over the top of my blended design. I taped down the Waves stencil from Simon Says Stamp over the top of that and went over it with Fallen Snow Glitter Glaze.

Once the texture paste was dry I added in highlights to the sky and ocean with a white gel pen. I also added some seagulls with a Copic multiliner. I cut the panel down to 3.75 x 5 and popped it up on a card base with foam tape.

For the sentiment I embossed a stamp from the Tiny Words stamp set from Simon Says Stamp on black cardstock with white embossing powder. I cut the sentiment down into a strip and popped it up on the card. To finish the card up I went over the sentiment and some of the ocean with Wink of Stella glitter.
